What Is An Appeal?

One of the questions that I get often, and it’s somewhat of a surprise, is the question of what is an appeal? And to me an appeal in the most simple form is taking an opinion from the trial court to the higher court. It is saying to the higher court, the trial court has ruled. We disagree with it in some respect, and we’re asking you the higher court to intervene and make a new ruling on whether the trial court got it right or wrong.
